Be afraid, Be very afraid!

This week's review is of a classic film from the eighties that was a remake of a film from the fifties. The Fly is a movie about a scientist who starts to transform into a fly after his teleportation experiment goes horribly wrong. This basic plot is all that was used from the original 1958 film.

[REC] Everything, It'll make for one hell of a show!

[REC] is a multi-award winning found footage film by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza. The film was made in 2007 and was filmed in an actual apartment building in Spain. Now I have heard a lot about this film and have been wanting to see it for quite some time now. It was definitely worth the wait and honestly [REC] is the type of movie you wish you never saw just so you can get the feeling of watching it for the first time again. It truly is just that good.

I just came across a movie that has really Interested me. It is called YellowBrickRoad.

Synopsis:
One Morning in New England, 1940, the entire population of Friar New Hampshire - 572 people - walked together up a winding mountain trail and into the wilderness.

The Search I thought would last FOREVER has finally came to an end!

When I was a kid my sister and I used to go down to the local VHS Rental store and clear out the horror section every weekend. There were movies there that we had literally seen hundreds of times. They had a deal that you could rent 3 movies for 3 days for 3 dollars as long as they were marke 3-3-3. I have to say I couldn't wait to see my favorite horror movies with that bright orange 3-3-3 sticker on them.

We would rent as many as we could afford and go home and watch them all weekend. Sometimes watch the same one over and over. Of all of my childhood memories these are the ones I cherish the most. Sitting and watching horror movies that sometimes scared me to death or other times had me rolling in laughter at how cheesy they were.

Anyway I could remember some parts to a movie that I used to watch all of the time but I couldn't remember the name of it. I have searched for years to find it and even coming across this title I never knew that "Forever Evil" was the movie I was searching for. Thanks to Yahoo Answers and an amazing person named Mitchell I finally have the answer I was looking for.

Do you like scary movies?

I know I sure do! I missed the opening night of scream 4 but I caught a matinee screening of it today & it was definitely worth the wait. I have been following this movie almost religiously since I heard it was being made. I watched all the teasers & trailers, viewed all the stills, listened & read all of the interviews & articles, I even watched the premiere.

All that movie stalking paid off because the scream 4 is amazing. It so takes me back to 1996 when the first scream premiered and redefined the horror genre. Well they did it again. I never like to give too much away by discussing plot but I have to say that this is the first horror/thriller movie that successfully meshes technology/internet with blood and guts.

I really enjoyed seeing a lot of the old cast members come back and I surprisingly enjoyed the new cast members as well. There are old horror movie scares that are mixed seamlessly with the "new rules of horror." Scream 4 definitely raises the bar for future post modern horror flicks for the Internet 2.0 age.

If you are looking for a great film with a ton of twists and turns & also some laughs thrown in, than scream 4 is your movie. It's smart, funny & twisted at the same time.

Reboots, Remakes, Prequels, & Sequels

There seems to be a long list of “NEW” movies coming out, that look and feel vaguely familiar. First up that caught my attention is the Prequel to Blade Runner, nothing is set in stone yet, but it looks like something may just be on it’s way since the franchise rights were just bought up by Warner Bros based Alcon Entertainment (Insomnia, The Book Of Eli). Let’s just hope they can get Ridley Scott, the original visionary for Blade Runner, back for this one.

Next up is another personal favorite of mine and that is Scream 4 coming to us in theatres on April 15th. Yes another horror sequel but, I am actually excited to see this one. The 4th installment in the Scream franchise should prove to be pretty interesting seeing as how a lot of the original cast will be back in full force with Wes Craven in the Directors Chair along with Kevin Williamson doing the writing. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. Also it is going to be R-rated so that is a definite plus in and of itself.

There are so many of these movies that are coming out that I can’t even begin to scratch the surface on them. Here is a short list of films coming our way and probably isn’t even half of all of them. Real Exorcism?

The Asylum’s new movie is said to be a “real” Exorcism.   The Asylum has gotten (supposedly) some actual footage from the infamous 1970s exorcism of Anneliese Michel, a German woman whose case was the basis for The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
                                     
Anneliese Michel was a devout Catholic who, underwent over 60 exoricisms in ten months because she was allegedly possessed by something.  She died in July of 1976 from malnutrition and dehydration.  

Asylum allegedly obtained this footage from a man named Dixon Engle who bought a large box of random, sometimes unmarked, tapes at an estate sale and, after some research, determined that these tapes depicted Anneliese's exorcisms.

The Asylum has made a deal with Engle and producer Jude Gerard Prest to rush these tapes to DVD, so look for them on March 1st.

Now I for one one am hoping that these tapes are real, chances are they are not and this is just some type of clever marketing in the style of “The Blair Witch Project”. Either way this looks to be very interesting and I can’t wait to see this on DVD.

Insidious

I have been keeping an eye on the new movie Insidious & I have to tell you I can't wait to see it. Insidious comes to us from the creators of Saw and Paranormal Activity, both of which I loved. This movie looks creepy as hell. Insidious hits theatres April 1st.

Let The Right One In / Let Me In

Todays review is a dual review of “Let the Right One In” & “Let Me In.”  If you haven’t heard of them, “Let the Right One in” is a Swedish film based on a book of the same title and “Let Me In” is the American remake. I saw “Let the Right One In” a long time ago and I just now got to see it’s remake, which I have to say really surprised me.

 

Being such a fan of the original film, I was really disappointed when I heard there was going to be an American remake. Nothing against America, ( I live there) just remakes are usually a huge disappointment. This movie is the exception. I have to say that I enjoyed this film almost as much as the original.

The storyline for both is the same; “Oscar / Owen, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli / Abby, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire.” The only real difference there is the names (Swedish / American).  There are of course other differences but for the most part the films are very similar.

I was really surprised with the ability of the young actors in both films, they really are talented at what they do.  That being said I really only saw one difference in the remake that I really didn’t like, and that is the CGI. The visual effects were something terrible, they were too obvious and too cartoonish for me. The last time I saw effects like that was in Exorcist 4, and those effects killed the movie for me. Luckily this movie was good enough that these awful effects didn’t kill it out for me.

If you are looking for a “Real” Vampire movie and not another “Twilight” piece of $h**, then this is your movie(s). Both are amazing films and if you like one then you should like the other. They definitely bring back vampires after Twilight ruined them. Vampires should explode in flames when sunlight hits them, not sparkle. These films are true vampire flicks.

So for your movie night I highly recommend either film, you will not be disappointed.
